Women face a unique set of clinical needs throughout their lives that range from effective contraception to managing menopause, as well as the treatment of certain conditions that are more likely to occur in women, such as osteoporosis. Across their lifespan, women use more medications than men. According to an analysis of 2009 prescription drug claims, fifty-six percent of women were taking at least one medication to treat a chronic condition as compared to 49 percent of men.
